I hope that everyone is finally outside enjoying the spring weather and some much-needed golf! I want to apologize for the delay in my videos this winter. I have been recently appointed director of instruction at Hartefeld national golf club. This is a position that I’ve wanted for a long period of time. I’m looking forward to creating a fine educational program here.I have been very busy on th...
Alignment and Your Golf Swing
Переглядів 3,7 тис.8 років тому
As we know, alignment is a very over looked part of a correct set up position. Many of my students have the problem of aiming right with their feet and positioning their shoulders open to their intended target. What this can do is make you take the club back on an outside path. In today’s video, I explain the proper alignment and the proper first move of the take away. I hope this helps!
Practicing your golf swing...Vertical Golf Swing, Body Friendly
Переглядів 9 тис.8 років тому
Today’s video revolves around what we can practice in the off season to either maintain our feel for the club or learn a new move to improve our overall swings. By practicing a full and complete follow through, we can improve our balance and consistency. Many times I see people working on different items in their back swings and become too focused on the back swing alone. If we learn to reverse...
Whip It Good-2nd Part of Drill- 3/4 turn in golf swing

Over the years of teaching, I have tried to keep my explanations of the swing very easy so that all of you can understand and apply it to your games. This drill is no exception. The ‘Whip it Good” drill shows us the proper release of the hands and forearms to produce much more speed in our swings. Follow along this week as I explain how to do the drill and why the ¾ limited turn swing is a must...

This week, I not only give you a way of finding the correct distance away from the ball with all of your clubs, but also, how to find your ideal posture! Follow along as I show you an easy way to find ...
Don't dance on your back swing, vertical golf swing
Переглядів 13 тис.8 років тому
This week, we discuss the question, “Are you a dancer on the back swing?” Follow along as I show you a major mistake that many higher handicap golfers do in their back swings. Remember, if we want to have a ¾ limited turn back swing, we have to control this by controlling are legs, knees and hips. Without this control, we become ‘Dancers’ and the back swing becomes too long and our ability to h...
Bunker Shots
Переглядів 8 тис.8 років тому
Bunker play is one of the easiest shots in golf but, many of us really struggle with it. The key that many of us forget is that the whole purpose is to hit the sand behind the ball and to dig a ditch under the ball. We never hit the ball first, just the sand! This of course is for a green side bunker. If you are in a fairway bunker, then you do want to hit the ball first. Follow along this week...

How to hit a golf ball squarely, drill.

The days are becoming shorter, but with the nice weather, there is no reason not to get out there on the course for some golf! This week’s video is about an issue that most amateur golfers have trouble with, the proper sequence in their swings. If you have an over the top move that produces divots to the left of your target, or you tend to slice, pull or in general, don’t hit the ball squarely,...

I have been using a vertical swing for about 8 months and that’s what I see. We have some wrist hinge, but not a lot. We don’t need it. If I try to force the wrist hinge to get more, it’s a bad shot. Thanks Dave, a good video.

I am a senior and pretty much self taught on the vertical swing. Everyone wants you to 90 degree in the backswing to 90 degrees for water in the follow through. My body doesn’t rotate 180 degrees that well. They also advocate for not swinging higher than your shoulders. I was doing this to the best of my ability for a while. My drives had a nice draw. I would drive about 190-215 most of the time. Then I lost me swing and couldn’t stay consistent. I started with a straight back to a straight forward a half swing from 9 to about 3 o clock type swing, all ams initially. This was great, but short. I worked on this, polished it up with a longer fuller swing, added body rotation. Now I drive dead straight about 250, with my best hits at 265-275, and a 7 iron of 165-170. This swing is so underrated and say to repeat.

Hello, Dave. I've been watching your golf lesson for a while, wondering if you still reply to questions. My problem is whenever I try to use my driver for vertical swing, 90% of the time slice. The iron's vertical swing is no problem. What am I doing wrong? Take care, I hope to hear from you soon. Stephen

Dave, you have a beautiful golf swing. I want that swing. I tried to emulate that in my living room and it really feels like a simplified, steady motion. What I am afraid of is that it creates a powerless swing. The range today will tell the tale.

I find after being a lifelong pull/hook pattern, the upright swing is actually causing me to fade/slice. I find clearing the hip on the backswing helps to approach from the inside and straighter shots.

  • @mikeschick8461

This is helpful to me because I have trouble actually rotating the left arm in the backswing, tending to do it late or maybe not completely. By not initially rotating the torso, the arms are sort of forced to rotate early, and then I follow up with the torso rotation. I recall something Hogan said about the backswing sequence, first hands, then arms, then shoulder, then hips, and this seems to to coincide with your idea of how to begin the swing. Thanks.
